Sports such as basketball, soccer, and tennis are popular, and in international competitions Armenians have excelled in wrestling, boxing, and gymnastics. Most city-dwellers live in apartment buildings that were built during the Soviet time; many of these are now dilapidated. Rural residents live mostly in single-family houses, and many members of an extended family often live together.
